Obsession
P.S. Your Cat Is Dead
Written and directed by Curry Barker — who with Cooper Tomlinson comprises the internet sketch-comedy duo That’s a Bad Idea — Obsession begins with a classic movie premise that works equally well for romcoms, thrillers, coming-of-age movies and yes, horror, which is that people are idiots and trusting them to do the sensible thing is like expecting pigs to take wing and fly.
Bear (Michael Johnston) is a shy, sensitive music-store employee who can’t find the courage to ask his co-worker and childhood friend Nikki (Inde Navarrette) out on a date. And it’s clear that the problem isn’t Nikki. Whatever Bear’s issues, they apply across the board. Oh, and his beloved cat Sandy has just died after getting into Bear’s mental-health meds — and there were a lot of them. It’s honestly not the most convincing scenario ever, in that cats lack opposable thumbs, and people, who do have them, often have trouble opening prescription-pill bottles with those press-and-twist caps. The takeaway here is: Keep meds out of kitty’s reach.
