Late Night with the Devil premiered theatrically on March 22 and began streaming on April 19. It rode a surf of positive reviews — though I myself ran Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire and Abigail, respectively, those weeks, each the necessary choice when there’s only one of me — and so producers-distributors IFC Films and Shudder rereleased it theatrically for a weekend beginning June 6 at 6 p.m. … for that whole 666 mark-of-the-Devil thing. Cute. That version screened with an introduction from the film’s star, David Dastmalchian, and an interview with him afterward conducted by cult-fave writer-director Kevin (Clerks) Smith. While those bonuses were not on the rerelease screener supplied me, I’m nonetheless happy for the excuse to catch up with this film: It’s sharp little horror movie, and if I look askance at all the “best horror movie of 2024” talk, it’s only because the year isn’t even half over.
