Acrophobic readers: You have probably guessed from the title that this may not be the movie for you. Claustrophobes, also be warned: It’s additionally full of scenes that trap characters in tight spaces.
Deviating pretty much immediately from the standard “invasion Earth” narrative, Elevation opens with a quick onscreen precis of what’s gone wrong with the world, which is pretty much everything: Sinkholes are opening up everywhere, unnamed creatures are emerging from the sea and prevailing wisdom is to head for higher ground. Really higher ground, as in “Everything above 8,000 feet is untouched.” The initial news flash: “If you can get to high ground, go there now.”
